This week's featured miniature is a beautiful 1/12th Scale Brown Colorwood Bowl by Bertie of BertiesMiniatures.

The bowl is created by laminating layers of dyed wood together and then turning it on a lathe. The result is magnificent!

Bertie writes, "It would serve very nicely as fruit bowl, a dough bowl, or a general utility bowl for the miniature kitchen," but it would be lovely as a decoration as well -- possibly with some tiny pumpkins or pine cones added. Don't you agree? :)

This little puppy is only 1 1/2" tall and is looking for a new home. He isn't house-trained, but who could resist that adorable face??

Add some serenity to your dollhouse with this beautiful 1/12th Scale Saltwater Aquarium by Brae of Otterine. Continuing with the baked goods theme, this week's Mini of the Week is this lovely 1/12th Scale Blue Lagoon Wedding Cake by BlueKittyMiniatures. The cake is approximately is a miniature representation of an actual wedding cake and stands 1 3/4" (45mm) high excluding the dolphin topper. The base board is 1 1/4" (30mm) in diameter.

Notice the delicate shading of colors! This cake would make a wonderful addition to a miniature bakery or a beach-themed miniature wedding.

Tom of Turnings in Miniature has listed this lovely 1/24th scale stone garden pot just in time for Spring planting! It is made of Brazilian soapstone and measures a mere 5/8" tall. Wouldn't it be beautiful on the garden patio with some lush greenery?

It's Springtime ... time for the mini peeps to do some spring cleaning and freshen up the dollhouse decor. Perhaps these pretty little chair cushions made by Dale of DalesDreams are just what they're looking for.

Bertie of Bertie's Miniatures started with a piece of acrylic polymer resin and used a lathe to create this beautiful 1/12th scale green and gold vase. Aren't the colors spectacular?

Measuring just 3/4" tall, this miniature work of art is a study in perfection. Wouldn't it look great on a bookshelf by itself or on a table filled with flowers? The possibilities are limited only by one's imagination!

Using a 3" x 1" glass microscope slide, Mick of micklen works magic from his flat in Northampton, England, to create beautiful 1/12th scale leaded glass panels.

Mick describes the process this way, "On this one the edge is adhesive copper tape stuck around the edge and then tinned, that is covered with a layer of lead free solder. The design is adhesive lead strip, not outliner from a tube and the glass is glass, not plastic or acrylic. This is design is a typical front door. The design is laid out and soldered with lead free solder. Yes proper soldering. Then the paint is laid on and that's it."

Mick currently has two more styles (style 2) (style 3) available in his Etsy shop and the results speak for themselves. He is developing new products all the time so be sure to check back regularly to see what's new! :)

Cindy of SnowFern has astounded us yet again with her incredibly true-to-life 1/12th scale snowflake cookies.

How does she get the piping so perfect on these incredibly tiny cookies?!? Perhaps she makes them in real life and then shrinks them to the correct size. ;)

Just 5/16" in diameter and made of polymer clay, these tiny cookies will test your dollhouse people's New Year's resolution to lose weight! ;)

Carol of MiniatureCabinDecor4 got the idea for her scale herb pots at a miniature show in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, where she found incredibly tiny clay pots and immediately knew what she was going to create with them. Inspired by photos of country kitchens where on the sills sat pots of homegrown herbs, she created her Herb Box.

The all wood box measures just 1 1/4" x 7/16" and is painted in many layers of different paints with the main color an antique white. The tiny pots are just 1/4" tall. This adorable miniature is the perfect touch to add that lived-in look to your dollhouse kitchen, making it this week's Mini of the Week.

Miniaturitis -- The Calorie-Free Obsession

It's that time again when people evaluate their lives and make goals for the new year. Miniaturists are no exception and the following tongue-in-cheek article is dedicated to our fellow artisans and collectors that share a 'condition' we shall call "miniaturitis". There is no known cure for miniaturitis, nor is there a 12 step program for recovery as most people so afflicted choose to remain happily obsessed. If, however, you wish to manage your symptoms, the following tips may be useful:

1) Maintain a balanced diet ~~ Most experts recommend 5 servings of miniatures per day but your individual needs may vary ;)

2) Nurture your inner child ~~ 4 out of 5 inner children surveyed want a dollhouse. Resistance is futile. ;)

3) Join a support group ~~ For teamMIDS membership requirements and application, click here

4) Have an escape plan ~~ To maintain proper mental and emotional health, schedule regular periods dedicated exclusively to the pursuit of your obsession... erm, I mean hobby. If your loved ones begin to suggest you are crankier than usual, double the dose. :)

5) If your symptoms persist or worsen, seek professional help ~~ Search teamMIDS on Etsy to find professional-grade, to-scale miniatures :)

Our own Richard of "Mini by Design" participated in his first miniature show here in Knoxville this weekend. Everyone knows that Aubri and I got to go and meet him, but thanks to the wonderful world of blogging, the whole team gets to join in the fun!

On the drive to the Holiday Inn, we just happened to spot this sign and of course I had to take a picture of it for Dales! (It's hard to read in the picture, but the name on the street-sign is "Dale Ave".) Richard was accompanied by his beautiful wife, Gail, and later in the day his son and son's girlfriend joined them. I got to see the book of Modern Furniture design that Richard uses to inspire him in his work, and the drawing he did of the bed with all the dimensions noted on it. It's amazing how exact his mini furniture is in comparison to the full size furniture! I thought he must have been some kind of archetect or engineer when I saw the drawing, but he tells me that his career has been as an executive.

I felt the need to show off some of my most precious posessions, so I took along some of my collection of TeamMIDS artwork, and Richard had a surprise for me...he gave me one of his boomarang tables in red, so it now resides with my growing collection. Thank you, Richard :0) (I'd feel guilty except that I had taken him a gift too; some of my mini photo art...lol)

Richard's furniture is spectacular. In a world where the Victorian style is the norm, his Modern style stands out and really catches your attention. And the quality is evident in every piece...how it's perfectly fitted and finished, right down to the smallest detail with gorgeous woods and flawless plexiglass accents. In fact, after seeing it in person, I've decided to go modern in my own dollhouse!

But by far, I would have to say that this dining set is my absolute favorite. It reminds me of Danish pieces that I've seen, and yes, I will have this someday! :0)
